“The Lovely Green Wedding Show 2008″
The UK’s First Green Wedding Event
Wow.. what a day! The wind was up but the rain stayed away allowing everyone to have a fantastic afternoon. The event was based across 3 different Papa Kata teepees starting with a chance to meet all of our lovely green exhibitors. Samples of black sheep were available in pint sized measures to a lot of people’s delight in one of our exhibition tents! Afternoon tea was served on beautiful vintage china whilst guests enjoyed some groovy tracks from the Jami Sheriff Jazz Quartet. All of the food was kindly supplied by Weddings & Wellies and guests tucked into handmade scones with jam and cream, carrot cake and spiced pumpkin pie! After tea, Dee Grismond from the Green Wedding Guru provided some interesting planning ideas with her Top Ten Eco Friendly Wedding Tips. And then everyone enjoyed an amazing fashion show featuring dresses from St. Gemma’s Hospice Charity Shop in Leeds showcasing an amazing dress for just £10 (!) followed by a special viewing of some of James Steward’s stunning couture dresses.
We were delighted to be joined by the BBC who were filming for the “It’s not Easy Being Green” series with a wedding focused episode scheduled for late Feb/March. The focus of the day was not about preaching but really showing that there are some amazing options for couples who would like to take on board some green ideas for their weddings – from locally sourced flowers and food, eco-chic wedding stationery, UK produced coffee table photography books, organic cakes and bespoke jewellery featuring conflict free diamonds everyone came away feeling inspired. The message was clear – it’s all about finding your own level and doing what you can – even if everyone just made one green choice for their wedding it would make a huge difference and with so many cool and chic options it could make you the most stylish couple around!
The day was a non-profit making event with all the proceeds going to Radio Aire’s Cash for Kids Charity and we’re delighted to announce that over £700 was raised! A huge thank you to all of our exhibitors that made such generous donations to the raffle.
Please do watch this space for more information about dates for the 2009 Show – this year the day will be bigger, better and most importantly greener!
